Back where I'm from, I was personally mentored by one of the best surgeons in the Kingdom of Rondon, who was a baron no less. Eventually, I also ended up serving as a combat medic for a war that just recently ended. As a result, I can't say I've had a lot of time exploring much in the way of hobbies, but I'll be glad to explore that kind of thing with people here. It's certainly much calmer by comparison.
Difficult to say as we adjust to life in this resort, but right now I'm just interested in getting to know everyone else here and assuring we all have a pleasant time. I assure you, I'd like to see to it you have one.
I used to work as a butler, so I have experiencing in mixing some pretty decent cocktails.
As much as I would love make people here a drink, I'd also enjoy showing how good I am with my hands. And, well, everything else, for the record.
Not much for books honestly; they put me to sleep better than any sedative. But I do like jazz and swing music, mystery films, and I favor beef wellingtons.
I consider myself a flexible man, but I like someone with a quick wit.

[He's worn many masks in the past, after all. Learned how to talk to all kinds of people, for better or for worse.]
...No one should have to do any of that, Cloud. I do fully believe that. But it's not always like people have choices. I certainly didn't.
[There's a pause, then he gives Cloud a kiss on the cheek.] Thank you, though. [For being protective of him. He isn't used to it by any means, but he's finding some comfort in it.]
Mm, that's fair. I understand what that's like. [To him it doesn't sound like it's anything to be embarrassed about. Daan's hardly had time to develop many hobbies either.] Sounds like we both could stand to find a few here.
...Is there anything from your home that you miss?
no subject
[ cloud pouts with all of the sopping, wet attitude of a dog. it makes his heart ache to think of daan living that way -- but then there's a kiss to his cheek, and daan will feel him perk up in real time, his pulse racing. ]
Yeah, [ he stumbles on his words. ] ...don't mention it.
[ daan is much more understanding than he'd expect from a person; it shouldn't surprise him. daan was...always understanding. kind. patient. ]
...People, mostly. [ he wouldn't admit this to anyone else aside from tifa, but-- ] There was this girl... named Aerith. She was here and then she was... gone. Just like that.
[ cloud's voice quiets. ]
It's... been weird, I guess. [ a moment passes. ] Don't think I have enough of a home to miss it, really.
no subject
A soldier's job is a bit more straightforward, at least. Less being a people person. ...Not to say I don't find you charming. [cuz he sure do
The mention of Aerith earns a surprised look on Daan's face.]
...I encountered her around the time we all ended up here. Lovely woman. I could see why you would miss her. [and like if that's your girlfriend he respects that so hard man]
No, I understand what you mean. I don't have a good concept of "home" anyway.
no subject
[ it’s so odd — how his vulnerabilities manifest in daan’s presence. how safe he feels around him.
then he mentions he knew aerith, and cloud’s face colors with surprise — before melting into a small smile. ]
…Makes sense that you two would get on. [ there is fondest in that statement. ] We’ve…gone through things together. She’s something different.
[ that last sentiment tugs at his heart. ]
I hope you find it one day. [ he muffles into his skin. ] You… deserve that much.
no subject
[There's a soft little amused huff from Daan.] She's very spirited. I quite liked talking to her. ...I hope she's well, wherever she is.
[Hopefully not in the fuck casino but who knows]
...So do you, Cloud. [Probably more than Daan does, at least in the doctor's perspective.]
no subject
[ he’s kinder. smarter. more patient. and interesting. and— ]
…Yeah. Me too. [ his voice is soft. and then daan says that, and he falls into silence.
a minute passes. ]
…Can I kiss you?
no subject
[The question earns a small smile, then Daan gives a faint nod.]
Yes. You can.
[Honestly, Cloud doesn't even need to ask, but also Daan quietly appreciates it. Ever cautious about respecting Daan's comfort level. ...It's new.]
no subject
too chaste for this kind of place, honestly. ]
…Thanks. [ bashfully— ] For coming.
no subject
It's strange. He doesn't get it either, because Daan has done so much filthier that this somehow gets to him. Similar to how eager he'd been to seek out ways to please Elise, her smiles and her laughter, yet this feels more innocent, in a way.]
Of course. I apologize if what you felt from me was... difficult.
[look man he can barely live with himself, he can only imagine how that felt for someone else]
But I would like to try something like this again. Perhaps not here, specifically, but... yes.
no subject
[ it was definitely not fine, but it’s an attempt at assuring him. that much sadness, that much self hatred — not even cloud knew of their depths. ]
No point in going at it alone. [ a shrug of the shoulders. ] Now you can’t hide it from me.
[ and then daan says he wants to see him again and — cloud’s stomach is bursting with butterflies. ]
…Okay. [ a nod of the head. ] Tell me when and where, and I’ll be there.
no subject
But it'll happen, he thinks dourly. Sooner or later.]
I'll be sure to message you. Maybe we'll both end up with a new hobby finally, huh? Now that we aren't fighting for our lives.
no subject
[ god knows cloud doesn’t even talk about himself on the average day — how did he end up so weak and exposed.
he doesn’t even know what this is. maybe he had brought up aerith for a reason; this entire thing had been so reminiscent of whatever he had with her.
without any warning, cloud stands up — he’s still holding daan, so he’s just opted to princess carry him again. ]
Maybe. Not sure what I’d be good at. [ then there’s a wisp of a smile. ] Least I can do this.
no subject
What a showoff. [It's said fondly.] Where to, then?
no subject
But no complaints, huh. [ he teases. ] …Dunno. Where do you want to go?
[ and then he clears his throat. ]
Your… knight is at your command. Or something like that.
no subject
My knight, huh. [Cute. A bit romantic, in a way. Didn't he fantasize about something like that when he was younger?]
I have an idea. Take me to one of the stores; I can grab some things and fix us both a drink.
[It helped keep him steady in Prehevil when they would regroup in that little club.]
no subject
[ daan’s weight is pleasant against him. he wishes they were in bed, nestled together. normal thoughts to have about a friend. ]
…Alright. [ and then while meeting his gaze— ] And you want me to carry you the whole time, huh?
[ it’s fine. let daan get a little spoiled. ]
no subject
[Well. Now he's definitely blushing, awesome.]
...If that's okay.
no subject
Guess we’ll be off.
[ and he does in fact leave, with daan in tow. he’s silent for the ride, focusing on the weight in his arms, savoring the warmth. the stores blend together with such ease; he can only vaguely pick apart somewhere that sells alcohol.
when he enters, daan is still in his arms. passerbys give them fleeting looks before resigning to accept it. ]
What did you want to get? [ a beat. ] My body’s different, so… get somethin’ strong for me.
no subject
Honestly, he doesn't so much care about what others might witness, so he ignores them and is just going to try to be content in Cloud's arms.
Right anyway. Store.]
Hm, a small list of things I want to try making for you. So it sounds like we're gonna need plenty of whiskey at least.
[But Daan has something in mind, and he's honestly looking forward to putting these together. While being a doctor is useful, he does derive more enjoyment out of something like this. It's remarkably good at destressing him.
And thus: their shopping trip ends with Daan holding a bag full of obtained goodies, primarily of various liquors but with some various fruits as well that he normally doesn't stock up on (because he ain't no Henryk and never really learned how to cook)]
Shall we?
no subject
[ he never did get particularly involved with 7th Heaven — he regrets that. cloud pays no mind to stray looks, merely doing what daan asks of him, content to satisfy him accordingly and be on their merry way.
he retraces the steps back to daan’s suite; he knows them surprisingly well. once they’ve both entered, cloud sets him down gently, with all of the grace of a knight. truly uncharacteristic. ]
Where do you want me?
no subject
Anywhere that's comfortable. There are chairs. I'm just going to get to mixing.
Mind you, I am taking your word for it and I'm making some exceptionally strong drinks.
[Anyway. He goes to the little table he has in the room, starting to arrange the bottles and other ingredients he's obtained. Rolling up his sleeves, Daan automatically seems comfortable this way, popping open new bottles.]
I'm starting you off with what's called the Sun Crush. Just a hint of sugar, and we'll see where we go from there.
[A slice of lemon and a slice of orange settle into an old fashioned looking glass along with a bit of ice. Into the mixer, he puts together some lemon and orange juice along with sugar and whiskey. Some vigorous shaking, and he pours the contents into the glass, giving it a pleasant orange hue from the juices contained.
Daan passes the glass to Cloud.]
Give it a go.
no subject
that would be inappropriate, yup. time to sit here, rocking back patiently onto his heels, the chair creaking as he watches. and then he passes a glass to cloud, and much like a curious dog, he gives it a sniff first— wow, there was a lot of alcohol content in that. ]
Cheers, doc.
[ and then he downs the entire thing. like a freak. the glass comes down. i’m going to pretend like his alcohol tolerance is significantly lower here. ]
Gimme another.
[ he liked it. that goes unsaid. ]
no subject
Huh, look at you go. You weren't kidding.
[Daan takes the glass to reuse, giving it a thorough rinse.] We'll try another one for you. The God Father. It's simple, but it's still strong for you.
[Less juice involved and more of a straightforward mix, but it still takes a bit of a balance. Instead of shaking the Amaretto and whiskey together, he pairs the both into the glass with ice before giving it a thorough stir.]
And there you go. [The glass is offered once more.]
no subject
[ he doesn’t actually know why. when he searches his subconscious for the answer, his mind contorts painfully, so he tries to not broach it.
he accepts the next glass. downs this one whole too. ]
…You’re good at this. [ he remarks, licking at his lower lip curiously. ] Should run a bar like you wanted to. People would show up just to talk to you.
[ people like him. ]
I’ll take another, bartender.
no subject
[There could be a number of reasons, but Daan won't pry if it's not something Cloud is prepared mentally for.
...Now's probably not the time, but he does look at Cloud, the way that tongue moves over his lip. Cloud's a beautiful man, just like he's also charmingly awkward in a lot of ways, earnest, and so damned stubborn.]
Well, I can at least think of a person or two who would.
[It would be nice to do that, he thinks. Much nicer than running a clinic. Much nicer than his cruel future will promise under the thumb of that wicked cat.]
We're gonna do something a little different. This is going to be a Chocolate Cake shooter. [He takes a shot glass, coating the rim with sugar. With a wedge of lemon, he does similarly, coating it with sugar. Into the glass goes some vodka and hazelnut liqueur, which he stirs briefly.]
Bite into this lemon. Keep the lemon juice in your mouth, then take the shot. Your tastebuds might not react the way most people's do, but... worth a try. Most people end up tasting something close to chocolate cake.
