He has steady hands, is an excellent surgeon, and an analytical eye. He is able to typically diagnose, and his experience with otherworldly nature can help him diagnose something unusual as well. In addition, Daan is practiced in harvesting organs as needed.
Former Butler - Has a certain grace about how he walks, and is damned good at mixing alcoholic drinks!

MAGICAL
Loving Whispers - A magical spell invoking the power of the Goddess Sylvian. Permits Daan to heal someone's wounds, but the amount that is healed is supposedly up to Sylvian's whims so in this case it'd be to a player's discretion.
Medicinal - An ability that allows Daan to sacrifice an organ in order to heal someone's illness or affliction, in most cases. The organ does not need to be his own, and can be something harvested from a person even if it is a dead body.
Magna-medical - If someone has died very recently (let's say 5-10 minutes) Daan is able to completely revive that person to perfect health after sacrificing a part of his body (typically a limb)
Pheromones - It's what you think.
Healing Whispers - Similar to Loving Whispers, but the healing impacts a group of people Daan perceives as his allies, and would heal for less than a single target.
Sylvian Healing - hey i wish i was joking but i'm not. It is entirely possible for people to heal from even the most gruesome of wounds if Daan just bones them. As this is mostly up to the discretion of the Goddess Sylvian, I plan to leave it in player hands on whether or not the magic works!
Ritual Circles - Most individuals can utilize a ritual circle, but Daan particularly is familiar with using one in relation to Sylvian, Goddess of Love and Fertility. Using a ritual circle would usually completely heal an individual of their health, including missing limbs. It does not cure illnesses. A ritual circle would need to be carved into a flat surface, and then a sigil appropriately drawn on it./br>
VICES: SELF-DESTRUCTIVE Naturally, this isn't something that Daan necessarily perceives as a problem. All of it loops back to his self-loathing and intense depression, as Daan has spent almost his entire life struggling in some fashion. To his neglectful, abusive parents, to living on the streets and finding ways to survive, to servicing the occult obsessed Baron von Dutch, dealing with a world war, and coming home to finding his wife was horribly murdered, Daan has been on nothing but a rollercoaster of misery and despair. As a result of his rather lonely and sorrowful life, he in turn neglects himself, having skewed perceptions on how to bother with his own health. He has no problem with mutilating himself if it accomplishes his spells, smoking to ease his depression, or drowning his sorrows with cocktails. It is even mentioned by another character in canon that Daan has found himself in a pit of despair more than once, and generally isn't concerned about dying in itself; he only wants to live long enough to reach his goal and sees zero self-worth.
DEPRESSED/INFERIORITY COMPLEX This is difficult to pick up on since Daan doesn't exactly express his issues openly or easily. Typically, he covers up his problems by acting as if nothing affects him, which is likely a practiced response during his entire life's neverending road of trauma after trauma. If he acts like he isn't bothered, then surely he isn't bothered. In addition, he's had a habit of being required to speak about his difficult childhood by his mentor for research purposes, and his love interest at the time is described as finding it amusing. As a result, Daan has a bit of a skewed perception on just how awful things truly were for him, and bears little self-worth for himself. On top of his troubled childhood and difficult medical training, he's also been through what is essentially his world's version of World War II as a combat medic, and has seen things even plainly stated as "better left unspoken." The final kicker is that while he was gone to war, his wife died under mysterious circumstances, leaving him completely alone in the world. All of these factors make for an intensely depressed person who cannot perceive himself as mattering to much of anyone, and conditions himself to ignore his own pains so long as he can accomplish his goal as well as help others.
SUICIDAL IDEATION Just what it says on the tin. With both his intense depression and self-destructive behavior, there is a part of Daan that yearns for things to just be done and over with, just not before he finds out the truth of what happened the night his wife died. He has been described as meeting the pit of despair more than once, and in his own unique ending he laments that he has "nothing else going for him" as he has no family or friends to speak of. As a result, he finds his own life pretty worthless and only prolongs living because he desires closure.
VIRTUES: EMPATHETIC Although Daan might seem like someone who doesn't particularly care about things or people around him, he does actually have a difficult time ignoring people who are in need. In the beginning of the game, you can temporarily recruit Daan, but he specifically will not leave the region of the slums where the citizens of Prehevil have been mutated as he is hopeful he can do something to help them with his medical knowledge. He even remarks that although he never swore the Hippocratic Oath, he still can't help but want to aid others however he can. Daan also remarks that he takes the time to help the workers of the Red Light District in the city he lives in, unabashed about aiding sex workers. Even prior to his medical mentorship, Daan had a dingy office where he would regularly heal people with his magic regardless of their class or origin, so suffice it to say he doesn't particularly care much about where someone is from in so much what kind of person they are. While he does have certain specific standards in regard to this, by and large if he perceives someone as a true victim, he will genuinely want to help them however possible.
COMPOSED It is exceptionally difficult to surprise Daan and throw him off of his composure. In general, this can be expressed in a manner of ways, such as how he appears to be generally indifferent, withdrawn, and even will crack a few sarcastic remarks when asked to do an autopsy on some bodies. It boils down to the fact that Daan has spent time as a doctor and combat medic, so not a lot of things really faze him. He can keep a clear head in most cases, unless the subject matter affects him personally in some way. Even then, the most he does is withdraw severely and keep his emotions to himself, and otherwise will keep himself on task. No time to freak out, there are things to do!

MONOLOGUE WITH THE MOON
Several people have dreamed of going home. To their friends and family, to business left unfinished. Who knows what keeps you here? And for Fearne Calloway, why not take matters into her own hands?
PREMISE.
In November, Daan received a series of skin bibles from his world. Ultimately, he opted to not investigate experimenting with the Rher skin bible, deciding that it wasn't worth the inevitable cost to the God of Trickery. However, that doesn't stop some people! Deciding to make with a five finger discount, Fearne has opted to take the book for herself and see about performing the ritual herself. What could possibly go wrong?
A lot, apparently.

For one thing, as all characters can attest to, powers aren't working in full functionality. In addition, Fearne is a far cry from an occultist of Daan's world. And thus, the ritual will backfire. Due to the nature of Rher -- trickery and all -- the ritual shall give Fearne a peculiar golden ornamental door. Opening this door offers a pathway into at least a part of Rher's dimension.


However, this ritual can also affect all other doors currently accessible to your character regardless of where they are. Your bedroom door, the door to the bathroom, to the media store, it doesn't matter. Any door can bring you to a pocket dimension produced by Rher, and each time can have a different effect.
POSSIBLE EFFECTS.
🌒 Entering a room may trigger a memory share sequence. The memory may play out in a perfect sequence as if one were watching a film, or it can be executed in an exaggerated scenario. Perhaps an antagonist who appears larger than life or monstrous due to your character's anxieties about them, or memories bleed into each other like a nightmare. Feel free to be as creative as you wish with this occasion. One of Rher's themes is "unable to escape your truth", after all.
🌒 Instead of being an outright memory share, a room or series of rooms will display the internal psyche of a character, and now you're trying to escape the pocket dimension. Almost like an escape room playing entirely on your psychology! It can be as symbolic as you care to have it, just that in some way it should reflect upon your character.

BACKGROUND
HISTORY: Daan's history can be found here but it will contain a lot of dark content, so I'm including general warnings for child abuse, possible implications of CSA, cults/religions, body mutilation, suicidal ideation, and body horror. Please let me know if you need any additions made to expand on Daan's history.
PERSONALITY: Answer three of the following questions. Limit this section to 500-1,000 words in total, or 150-300 words per question.What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature?
The intended impression that Daan has is someone who lives in a higher standing than he truly does, that he is an unshakeable individual who has a cool head in the worst situations. There are parts of him that can come off even as arrogant and sarcastic, perhaps even uncaring, but those aspects can be fairly easy to disprove.
In truth, Daan is more highly empathetic than he cares to let himself. While he is extremely bitter at the world and his own life leading to this point, he isn't callous enough to completely ignore the plight of his comrades. He'll go out of his way to banter with them, and even carefully denies a seemingly underage woman from drinking alcohol. Even more deeply, Daan is severely depressed, someone who is constantly attempting to escape his own despair, brutally aware that he has nothing and no one waiting for him if he ever manages to return to his home.
Basically please imagine someone who looks pretty calm and posh on the outside, but he's a big ol' mess on the inside.How does your character handle stress? What do they do in an emergency?
A long line of Daan's history has been stress after stress; he is a survivor of child abuse and a cult his parents were involved in, he's worked in a clinic for sometime, and then was involved in a war (equivalent to World War II) as a combat/field medic, which in turn has caused him to bear witness to some truly heinous, wretched things. In addition, Daan has ended up in a monstrous battle royale-based festival most recently, and for the most part he has reacted to many of these things with either calculation, wryness, or sarcasm.
That isn't to say that he doesn't succumb to stressful situations. In fact, he has shown to be shaken by a matter in relation to his late wife and father-in-law, which suggests that if it isn't a personal matter he's able to handle difficult situations with a cool and analytical approach instead of merely panicking. In most cases, he's most likely to make a sneering remark before aiding others than to let a situation get to him. But when that personal factor comes in, Daan does become more self-destructive, such as drinking and chainsmoking.What are some of your character's regrets? How is your character impacted by them?
The core point of Daan's regret is concerning his late wife, Elise. While Daan was involved in helping soldiers during the Second Great War, letters suspiciously stopped arriving from Elise. Upon Daan's fervent return after the war ended would only lead him to the corpses of his father-in-law and Elise, the remains suggesting they were sacrificed in a cult ritual. Despairing over the loss of what little family he had left, Daan has since regretted it immensely. However, he is also fiercely determined to find answers as to why this happened.
Unfortunately, this culminated in a revelation, which includes spoilers: During the course of Daan's experiences in Prehevil, he ultimately discovered that both his father-in-law and wife were somehow in Prehevil as a pair of monstrous enemies. It is in this moment that Daan is visibly shaken after examining the bodies, but he never expresses to his comrades the truth. Ultimately, he still doesn't know why it's happened, and he continues to be desperate for answers.

NERFING: I would assume that either a spell like Magna-medical would be more demanding on Daan, or simply would not work. Much of Daan's abilities are related to healing instead of being based on attacks, so I imagine it more or less translates to Daan only being able to heal basic injuries/illnesses instead of life-threatening ones. If you have advice or think I should make additional changes, please let me know!
