Back where I'm from, I was personally mentored by one of the best surgeons in the Kingdom of Rondon, who was a baron no less. Eventually, I also ended up serving as a combat medic for a war that just recently ended. As a result, I can't say I've had a lot of time exploring much in the way of hobbies, but I'll be glad to explore that kind of thing with people here. It's certainly much calmer by comparison.
Difficult to say as we adjust to life in this resort, but right now I'm just interested in getting to know everyone else here and assuring we all have a pleasant time. I assure you, I'd like to see to it you have one.
I used to work as a butler, so I have experiencing in mixing some pretty decent cocktails.
As much as I would love make people here a drink, I'd also enjoy showing how good I am with my hands. And, well, everything else, for the record.
Not much for books honestly; they put me to sleep better than any sedative. But I do like jazz and swing music, mystery films, and I favor beef wellingtons.
I consider myself a flexible man, but I like someone with a quick wit.

...Healing from that will be hard.
But I have complete confidence in you, Marina. You're so damned strong. Don't underestimate yourself.
[Daan frowns faintly.] I struggle to see that the way you do, if I'm gonna be honest.
no subject
[she says in that "teasing, but the truth is there" way of hers.
She doesn't want to be the kind of hollow person her father was, the person he would have had her be. A cocoon with nothing of Marina left inside, everything worthwhile eaten away. That isn't her fate.
Daan's fate shouldn't be to become such a monster, either. She'll cherish him and keep him safe so that doesn't happen, she's dedicated. No convincing her otherwise, stubborn girl.]
Take it as a compliment. Sheesh.
no subject
[At this point, Marina knows a decent gist of Daan's history, why he went to Prehevil, and still she is dedicated to being his friend. He struggles to see that worth, but he can't argue right now. He's too damned tired.]
That you'd let your makeup run if you could for me? Hmm, I see your point.
no subject
Oh, no. Real ugly crying. Mascara stained tears and wailing and messy, ragged hiccups. Whole nine yards. [she chuckles lightly, knowing just how odd it must sound that she wants that for herself. Marina wants that kind of heights of emotion. Something about it seems respectful,]
That would do justice to my feelings about losing you. Nothing short.
no subject
Though he'd certainly gotten close during his outing with Cloud in the Smoked Egg.]
Mm. Well... if nothing else, I seem to have some time here.
[Time enough to make peace with.]
no subject
[Honored, that is. She butts her head in him before relaxing again, nuzzling his collar and chest, fitting neatly into the spot. Funny that she finds such comfort in him as this.
They really did go through hell and emerge from the other side forever changed... but at least it's together.]
Let's never go back. We can stay here and play... and if you do need answers, maybe your wish can go towards that. Or something even better, if it's really true we get one. [What would Marina wish for, if she could get every card? She hadn't actually thought it through. Definitely not go back to Europa.]
I will wish for you to make it through everything and find happiness, Daan. You deserve it. [not I would, but I will, it's a promise and a threat!]
no subject
...Cloud wants to take me back to where he's from. [There's a hint of amusement to go with his fondness.] I don't know how I feel about staying here. It's not completely awful, but... [Daan shrugs helplessly.] It's certainly a step up from anywhere we've been to.
[He doesn't have anything waiting for him anyway.]
Marina... [Daan grimaces.] Well, I'd tell you not to waste your wish, but I don't think you'd listen to me.
no subject
But talk about selfish, that man you like. [she says dryly, more clearly teasing after] Claiming you all for himself!
I'd just have to follow along and spoil your fun. [it's too needy of her to speak so plain, but don't leave her, Daan. Not before she can mourn properly.]
no subject
Heh. ...He has a crush. He'll get over it. [Gently, he ruffles Marina's hair before going back to combing it through.]
I wouldn't tell you "no", though.
no subject
Always getting my way is a real bore.
no subject
Like if I think you're going to do something exceptionally foolish.
no subject
Maybe he shouldn't let Henryk do that at his bar-]But that's not as fun, huh? Pssh... being responsible.
no subject
Being responsible isn't so fun, you know.
no subject
Keep an eye on me and I'll keep an eye on you.
no subject
I can agree to that.
no subject
God, their breath is not good. She shakes her head, chuckles lightly, squeezes his hand in hers.]
Can I shower here with you? We're all gross. [Marina knows her room is only a few doors down, but listen... it's not about that. Her urge to run off has completely collapsed in on itself and now she doesn't want to leave his side for a long while longer.]
no subject
[instead of sharing a kiss, he pecks her forehead.]
Come on. I've got room for two. I'll even be nice and scrub your back.
no subject
She doesn't need to get any tougher, she's had enough.
Finally peeling herself away from him, Marina stretches out as she gets her feet beneath her. Sore muscles will really be helped by some hot water and steam, she thinks, a back rub, too.]
Only if I get to wash your hair. [she's not actually calling him greasy, she just thinks that's a nice thing to do for someone. Who wouldn't like fingers massaging their scalp and tending to their hair for them? It's such a nice feeling...
Marina will be following him into the bathroom if he goes along.]
no subject
It's a deal.
[And thus does Daan indeed lead the way, and fortunately he has a whole assortment of hygienic products at their disposal. After turning on the shower, he quickly gets undressed and slides into the shower.]
no subject
Daan will hear her rummaging around his drawers. Looting. She's good at it.
It isn't for long. She pulls herself into the shower with him and hands him his toothbrush with a big glob of paste on it. And she has one for herself, a spare she found, already in her mouth. Speaking around it,]
Brrshh uhp.
no subject
The toothbrush is given a surprised glance, then a wry smile.]
How nosy. [He says it, just to tease her but nothing else is meant. Daan takes it and gets to teethbrushin! Status effect removed: morning breath.]
no subject
Marina brushes her own mouth diligently, always one to care for her hygiene and spend morning hours on her appearance for the day. This is definitely a strange first for her, sharing a shower with a man while they both brush their teeth. She looks at Daan and really does think how the fuck did we get here? Probably something he could read from her expression, but she doesn't voice it.
She just leans around him him to spit down the drain, good manners when the other option is directly onto their feet. Not that she thinks there's many distinct rules of engagement to this particular scenario. It's very odd... if not bad.
She needs to bully him. Anything to throw off all this unruly fondness she feels!]
I'm still going to call you a wet cat. [grim humor, she can tremendously sad about Daan's fate and still think it's funny to call him a stray. These are not mutually exclusive.]
no subject
Whack.
Daan turns his head and spits down the drain, then wrinkles his nose at her.]
You're a riot, Marina. [Even if he doesn't find it very funny, it's not enough distaste to make him tell her to stop.]
no subject
That thought of a moment ago, about how they got here, does still linger on in her mind. She chews it over. How short of a time ago it was that they were complete strangers to each other. Just another face on a train. A man with checkered pants and a girl with pigtails.
Now they're like this.
Unlike all that painful grief, she takes so much heart in this friendship they forged. Talk about winning out against all odds.]
no subject
Daan hesitates, letting Marina wash him. It's... nice, he thinks; she doesn't even hesitate, and tends to him. He can't remember anyone's touch being kind like that, honestly. Moreover, Daan also couldn't have ever predicted this: befriending the strange girl with pigtails on a train, when Daan was fully convinced he'd probably never return from his trip to Prehevil to find the truth.
And here they are. Daan's first and very best friend.]
...Thank you, Marina.
