Back where I'm from, I was personally mentored by one of the best surgeons in the Kingdom of Rondon, who was a baron no less. Eventually, I also ended up serving as a combat medic for a war that just recently ended. As a result, I can't say I've had a lot of time exploring much in the way of hobbies, but I'll be glad to explore that kind of thing with people here. It's certainly much calmer by comparison.
Difficult to say as we adjust to life in this resort, but right now I'm just interested in getting to know everyone else here and assuring we all have a pleasant time. I assure you, I'd like to see to it you have one.
I used to work as a butler, so I have experiencing in mixing some pretty decent cocktails.
As much as I would love make people here a drink, I'd also enjoy showing how good I am with my hands. And, well, everything else, for the record.
Not much for books honestly; they put me to sleep better than any sedative. But I do like jazz and swing music, mystery films, and I favor beef wellingtons.
I consider myself a flexible man, but I like someone with a quick wit.

His lips twitch when he looks down at Marina, and how she's arranged herself.]
Cute.
[If there's something to be said about Marina, it's that Daan respects her deeply for being so sure of herself. Knowing exactly who she is, and being free of the ties that must have once bound her. Not that it wasn't complicated regarding her father's death, he's sure, but as she said she has no reason to ever go back now.
Daan leans over, fingertips trailing up the calf of a leg.]
Hmm. [He could be mean. Go through a thorough examination of her body that adheres to her consent, but he doesn't have it in him right now. Playful is fine, but it seems a little cruel to do that kind of trick on her.
So he keeps to a gentle but firm touch as he reaches up, gently touching her jaw and chin.]
Close your eyes for me?
no subject
Daan hovers over her still without his shirt and she can admire him with equal appreciation, though his touch to her face distracts her from sharing any compliment back. Another time, they have plenty of it here, don't they? No longer on a time limit... maybe.]
Oh? What if I want to keep an eye on you, doctor? [she closes her left eye, winking the mark to him without her own knowledge. She trusts Daan, but the idea of letting someone touch her without seeing what they're up to. It still sends a discomforting shiver through her, rattling too many oversensitive nerves. Marina needs some more time before she can easily agree to such a thing.]
no subject
The wink earns an amused sound. He knows it's that eye, but at least he can have the excuse of noticing it now.]
Close that eye for me then? Just your left eye. I want to make sure I'm right.
[He understands. He really does.]
no subject
Daan doesn't smile enough, but it's not like they had much to smile over back in Europa. Not in Prehevil, not on the train, and not before that. She knows he understands.
Her left eye stays closed this time, following orders for once. It only belated occurs to her that a mark on hey eyelid is even a possibility. And on the side Daan is missing, yeah, this place definitely has a cruel sense of humor.]
no subject
With the tip of his thumb, he traces over the mark on her eyelid, careful to not apply much pressure at all.]
Well now. There it is.
[Truly, this place is having joy in mocking him, isn't it? From the gifts, the placement of these marks, and the entire concept of the game. Oh yes, it's designed to get under his skin. Daan won't let it win, though.
Daan removes his thumb.]
No wonder you hadn't noticed. [He did, almost right away, but even just having one eye doesn't keep him from having an analytical gaze.] Not an easy thing to spot on your own.
no subject
She feels a twinge of guilt to even doubt him. Just habit, she supposes]
No, I suppose not... [don't sound breathless, Marina, sheesh... no swooning for old men! (She keeps doing this anyways when old means... like still not even thirty.)]
Do you have a hand mirror? I want to see it. I could angle it to show you yours, after. Not that you'll be happy about it.
no subject
[It's stated a touch more firmly than he means to say. He'd intended for casual, but he almost sounds stern. He isn't sure if that's better than desperate. Marina is right about one thing: he isn't happy about it, and he's already considering if he should try to carve it off.
Daan breathes in, then he turns around.]
...But I'll give you a hand mirror so you can look for yourself.
[He says that more softly, not liking how his voice sounded earlier. Working himself into being calmer, Daan goes to one of the drawer sets in the room, pausing a moment before he offers her a simple hand mirror with a wooden handle.]
no subject
Thank you, [she says to take the mirror handed to her. Closing her left eye and angling the mirror, Marina takes as good a look as she can. Three dark dots and a flare of a dash to form the clover shape, marked into her skin.]
It's cute enough. Matches the constellation around my mouth, too. What a nice touch.
no subject
It's subtle.
[He hates that it's over her left eye, but that's not her fault. So doesn't even bring it up.]
Works well with that pretty face of yours.
no subject
Now, he's putting his shirt back on! Huff... she sets aside the mirror and then catches a corner hem of the fabric to tug on. Marina thinks to make fun of him for it, but the mood is a bit off for that. Rattled and uneven.
She just kind of wants him close to her.]
Lay down with this pretty face in your bed, won't you?
no subject
[Whether he means the examination or the location of the mark is up in the air.
There is a pause when he feels the tug, and he considers. A better man might encourage her to go and find someone else, someone more to her tastes, or something like that. Go and do better, not bother with him.
But inevitably, Daan is a bit selfish too, sometimes. So he gives in, making his way to join her in bed.]
How could I refuse?
no subject
[Marina is glad for his selfishness, because if he said something like that she might just go. She's not about to argue with him, to grovel all "no, no, I want to stay with you," even if she does want it to be him. Haughty pride gets in the way there.
She's glad it doesn't happen here. Marina scoots to give him room on his own mattress to join her, curling up to her side to be tucked in close to him. Her arms press down towards her lap, smoothing her long skirt]
You could, but you wouldn't. I'm too cute. You already said so.
no subject
He really does like that strength about Marina.]
Hm, damn. You got me there. I guess I never had a choice at all.
no subject
[her arms lift again, unable to keep to herself. He slips one around Daan's waist and the other to his chest. Long fingers petting across his chest, where his heart is. The other just loosely embraces him,]
You don't smell like a chimney, anymore. [still like smoke, but it's fresher now, tobacco instead of old soot and city grime]
no subject
[Though Daan doesn't immediately realize it, he finds himself holding his breath for a moment as she just gently touches him. It's... affectionate, and he downright nearly doesn't know what to do with that. Sex is one thing; that's all that it is. This is a bit different.
But he doesn't shrink away. Instead, Daan settles his hand to her hip, rolling his thumb, but demanding nothing. Not that anyone could make demands of Marina Domek.]
A few hot showers and you'd never know what we had to deal with back there. Still looking for a decent cologne scent around here, though.
no subject
Like a forest scent. (Why not?)]
I quite like cigarette smell on its own. We weren't allowed them at the Ministry... But the girls would still sneak some in.
no subject
[A tsk escapes him.] Terrible habit for them to pick up. [The hypocrisy does not escape him, but he doesn't remark upon it either.] But that's a relief for me. I figure you would've complained by now if you hated it.
no subject
Oh, that must be why I want another kiss. You're habit forming. [Makes complete sense, yep, yep. (Admit she just wants to? nah, nah.)]
no subject
But the thoughts stay in his head, never passing through his lips.]
Careful. You might develop an addiction, young lady.
[Daan does invite her in with a stroke to her cheek. Like he said before, he couldn't deny her.]
no subject
Just a little hit... [and then she'll kiss him fully, mouth curved into a scarcely contained smile]
no subject
His palm rests lightly to cup her cheek, encouraging her as close as she'd like. Briefly, he parts if only to murmur to her.] Hm, maybe I'm developing a new habit, too.
[And without sparing another second, Daan returns to the kiss.]
no subject
His smart mouth is, too, she puffs out a single breathe of laughter before he's back on her lips.
Eagerly, she reciprocates, the initial sensuality she attempted seeming to land, but... the patience she leveled upfront doesn't last. No, she really likes the feeling, all the sensations the kissing someone brings. Whether Daan appreciates her enthusiasm is up to him, Marina just can't help herself,]
no subject
Faintly, in the back of his mind, he thinks -- it was rare that Elise would be affectionate with him. But he lived for those moments.Gently, he runs his tongue over Marina's lower lip, encouraging her.]
no subject
Wh-whatever, it's Daan. What does she care about impressing him?
She kisses him deeper and longer, until she really needs to break back to catch her breath. Not going far, though, still nuzzling her nose to the man's. Light panting against his lips as she mutters]
... I keep... running out of breath too quick, doctor. [over eagerness will do that]
no subject
Eventually, she needs air; that's what happens when you delve in so fiercely. Daan smiles crookedly, tucking some of her bangs away from her eyes.]
I'd recommend some patience. Can't dive in so fast until you know the waters. Just a friendly medical suggestion.
But anyone would be lucky to kiss you, Marina.
